The Jeep Wrangler: the most iconic off-road vehicle for sale in America today. With a story tracing back to America’s first land involvement in World War II, the Wrangler has become an entire lifestyle. In 2006, the first Wrangler Unlimited four-door was released, expanding that lifestyle even further, offering space for the whole family without sacrificing utility. Fully off-road capable, it’s the number one choice for American adventure drivers. As long as it’s properly equipped. Which bring us to an important question: What tires should you choose for your Wrangler? We won’t try to make the decision for you, but we will let you know about the most popular Jeep Wrangler tires for sale today, how they compare to each other, and what they’re best used for.

Falken Wildpeak® All Terrain Radial

Falken’s best all-around Jeep tire has been hugely popular among enthusiasts. Though perhaps best suited for on-road commuting, the Wildpeak All Terrain Radial nonetheless lives up to its name. Capable in light-duty off-road situations, the Wildpeak truly shines in wet weather and winter driving. Featuring a speed rating of T, fairly unusual in an all terrain tire, the Wildpeak can reach a top speed of 118 mph— probably faster than you’ll ever go in your Jeep. But the speed rating doesn’t just mean you’re safe on the autobahn. It also means the tire is extremely wear resistant, thanks to its silica tread compound.

Toyo Open Country® Radial

If you don’t have quite the budget for some of the more expensive tires on this list, don’t worry. The Toyo Open Country Radial is an excellent value for the price. Carrying a treadwear warranty of 65,000 miles, it’s perfect for a daily driver, and like the Wildpeak, it carries a T speed rating. But it’s not just an angry looking tire for the road. The tread pattern is aggressive, designed to perform in the dirt, as well. Treadwear was, however, Toyo’s focus when designing this tire. If you’re looking for something low in price that will last ages, the Open Country radial is the tire for you.

Cooper Discoverer® STT Pro

The most extreme off-road tire in Cooper’s line, the Discoverer STT Pro was specifically designed with the trail in mind. Featuring an extremely aggressive tread pattern, the Discoverer churns through deep mud with ease. Its shoulder tread pattern, with alternating mud scoops and soft-surface cleats assists with this. Cooper’s Flex Groove™ Technology reduces impacts on uneven terrain. Yet you can drive home from the off-road park on the Discoverer without issue. Owners have found the road noise refreshingly low for an off-road specific tire.

Goodyear Wrangler® Kevlar Radial

You know this one is a good choice. Goodyear named it Wrangler. Let’s skip straight to the party piece. The Wrangler SilentArmor® features a layer of Kevlar. Yes, that Kevlar. The stuff they make body armor out of. This doesn’t mean your tires are bulletproof, but it does mean you can trust them to get through situations that may leave others full of holes. The sidewalls are extremely durable, making the Wrangler a good off-road tire. Yet Goodyear’s focus here was on road noise reduction— thus the SilentArmor badge. Though this tire only has a Q speed rating, good up to 100 mph, it’s still a fantastic road tire for the reduced noise alone.

Mud Claw® Extreme MT

It sounds like it’s named after a post apocalyptic mutant beast, and that’s probably intentional. The Mud Claw Extreme MT from Eldorado was developed specifically for off-road use, but still works great on the pavement. The Mud Claw’s staggered shoulder tread blocks chew through mud and snow like few other tires can. And it certainly has the look. The mean, Mad Max tread layout perfectly complements any off-road customized Jeep. Surprisingly, owners have found it relatively quiet on the highway, a rare quality among tires with such aggressive designs.

Nitto Trail Grappler® All Terrain Radial

Another example designed specifically for off-roading is the Nitto Trail Grappler. This is not a road tire that has been retreaded for off-road use. Instead, Nitto started with their Mud Grappler® and made it slightly more road friendly. It features a 3-ply sidewall for strength against intrusion. On the sidewall’s surface are extra tread blocks for biting into deeper snow, mud, or sand. You might be surprised, then, to find that it’s available in two speed ratings: Q (100 mph) and R (106 mph). Nitto did actually design this thing to work well on the road, too, using sophisticated sound analysis to reduce the road noise that usually comes with a trail-specialized tire setup. Be aware that the Trail Grappler is not a budget tire.

Bridgestone Dueler® All Terrain Revo 2

If you spend most of your time on the road, you won’t need something like the Mud Claw or Trail Grappler®. The Bridgestone Dueler All Terrain Revo 2 is designed primarily for road use, with light off-roading as a secondary capability. Bridgestone’s tread design was engineered for quiet and comfort, making this the perfect tire for working vehicles with longer commutes. We don’t recommend it for extreme off-roading, but we do recommend it for modest budgets. Like the Toyo Open Country, it is pleasantly affordable.

BFGoodrich All Terrain KO2® Radial

Contrary to most images, a Jeep Wrangler is a perfectly capable tow vehicle, often pulling jet skis, boats, campers, and other fun machines to weekend adventure spots all over the country. For some towing applications, you need a tire with a heavy load rating, and the BFGoodrich AT KO2 Radial fits the bill. It has a load rating of 3,417 lbs per tire, which should be plenty enough for your needs. It also features thicker than standard sidewall and shoulder rubber, both to prevent off-road punctures and to gain extra grip in mud and snow. The speed rating is R (106 mph), so it’s perfectly suited for road use.

If a Jeep wrangler is anything, it’s an adventuremobile. You can take it almost anywhere and do almost anything with it. Then, at the end of your off-road journey, you can take it back home on the highway and use it to commute to work the next day. But going to a tire store, sitting through hours of daytime TV in a greasy waiting room while you wait for your tires to be replaced— that’s no adventure at all. When you’re ready for a new set of tires for your adventuremobile, order them right here at Zohr.com. Schedule a mobile tire replacement appointment with us and we’ll meet you at your home, your office, or even your campsite. It’s easier than ever to get new tires in Plano, TX. That’s less time in a tire store and more time on the trail.
